Dr. Neil Tangri works at the science-policy interface on climate change, plastics, and waste. He is a founding member of Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), and currently serves as its Senior Director for Science and Policy. He is also a senior fellow at the Center for Environmental Public Policy at the University of California – Berkeley and a founding member of the Scientists’ Coalition for an Effective Plastics Treaty.
A climate scientist and oceanographer by training, Neil has more than 20 years of experience working on a variety of issues including waste management, plastics, chemical recycling, waste incineration, zero waste systems, carbon markets, informal sector inclusion, offset credit systems, PVC and mercury bans, municipal water supply, lead poisoning, marine plastic pollution, climate finance, carbon markets, and informal sector inclusion.
Neil received his Ph.D. in Earth System Science from Stanford University, his B.A. in Mathematics from Oberlin College, and also holds a 200 ton master’s license from the U.S. Coast Guard.
